Johnson County Juvenile Justice Youth Development Policy Board

Description:Community members are appointed to the Johnson County Juvenile Justice Youth Development Policy Board by the Board of Supervisors. The duties of the JJYD Policy Board include:
Oversee the development of assessment and monitoring systems
Spearhead the development of countywide prevention, intervention, and sanction services coordination
Review strategic planning and monitor progress of projects
Brief the community on the value of asset building by talking to local groups and engaging in other promotional activities
Promote activities that are designed to raise assets in youth
Provide and develop funding for asset building programs in the community
Act as a source of information and communication conduit for various groups and individuals interested in participating in projects
Annually the Johnson County Board of Supervisors awards over $200,000 to local non-profit organizations providing positive youth development and delinquency prevention programming. The JJYD Policy Board provides recommendations on community needs and general oversight of contracted programs.

Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community Coalition

Description:The Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community Coalition began 18 years ago as a catalyst for creating community partnerships to meet the needs identifies within the area served by Johnston Community Schools. The Partnership’s mission is to promote a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all community members. This is accomplished by mobilizing community health initiatives and resources, promoting opportunities for positive youth development and human service efforts. Lamoni Area SAFE Community Coalition

Description:Lamoni Area SAFE Community Coalition is composed of community leaders from fourteen different segments of the community that meet on a monthly basis. Lamoni SAFE was organized in 1998, and since that time has managed Drug Free Communities Grants, Coalition Mentoring Grants, and numerous smaller grants to support youth programming. Lamoni SAFE won the National Outstanding Rural Community Drug Free Coalition Award in 2005, and has led the efforts for Lamoni to be designated a six-time winner of the 100 Best Communities for Young People sponsored by America's Promise and a 2012 Winner of MetLife's Best Intergenerational Community. Lamoni SAFE Coalition owns the community youth center, "The Alley," where out-of school and summer programming is planned for youth on a daily basis by AmeriCorps Youth Launch members and other volunteers.3/15 Contact: Shirley Kessel

Description:The Northwest Iowa Tobacco Free Coalition serves the population in Lyon, OBrien, Osceola,Plymouth and Sioux Counties. This is done by providing tobacco education and prevention services. Our goals include preventing tobacco use from beginning,especially among youth; assisting in cessation efforts; and protecting individuals from the many dangers of secondhand smoke.
