Coalition Group for Prevention of Depression/Suicide

Serving:Sibley, Ashton, Harris, Melvin, Ocheyedan, Allendorf, May City, Cloverdale in Osceola County and adjoining communities
Description: The Prevention of Depression/Suicide Coalition - Osceola County was formed in April 2006.
Participants in this coalition come from the schools, the hospital, mental health therapists,
ministers/pastors, Public Health, Home Health, county law enforcement, ATLAS, Family
Crisis Centers, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Compass Pointe, and other organizations
to help all residents of Osceola County and the surrounding areas.
Following the suicide rate report for 2004, this project was begun as an urgent need to
educate residents of all ages in Osceola County and adjoining counties regarding awareness
depression symptoms and suicide prevention. With support from our partners, it is the
continuation of an ongoing effort to build a healthier community through education.
This project is a collaboration within many sectors in Osceola County, including the schools,
churches, hospital, public libraries, and various organizations within the community to make
this an inclusive attempt to inform and alert our community of the warning signs of
depression and prevention of suicide.

Creston SAFE Coalition

Description:Our SAFE Coalition has members of the Creston Police Force, Sheriff’s Department, Juvenile Court, Prevention Specialist, Decat, Community Partnerships for Protecting Children Program Manager and other various community partners. We meet on a monthly basis to discuss activities we plan to do in the community as well as education pieces we can offer. We coordinate with our local SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter students to help with their efforts in the community. We recently did a “mock” party house where parents were able to see a live version of what teenagers do at a typical party these days.
